Artist's Description
Eklutna, Alaska sits just north of Anchorage. A small community of native Athabascan Indians, Yupik Eskimos, Russians, and locals attend this Orthodox church built in 1962 by Chief Mike Alex. They build these little structures to house the spirits of their dead loved ones and their possessions in the afterlife. The colors of the houses are specific to the family's heritage.
